4×4 (four-wheel drive) chassis: The first number represents the total number of wheels of the vehicle, and the second number represents the number of driving wheels, that is, all four wheels of the vehicle have driving power. It is different from the 4×2 two-wheel drive (only front-wheel/rear-wheel drive) chassis. It is the mainstream chassis architecture for hard-core off-road, special operation vehicles, and some high-end SUVs.
Equipped with a transfer case (core component), which can switch between two-wheel drive/four-wheel drive mode, some with low-speed four-wheel drive; front and rear independent transmission shafts, connecting the gearbox, front differential, and rear differential; optional differential locks (front lock, rear lock, central differential lock, commonly known as three locks), lock the differential when one side of the wheel slips, and transfer power to the wheel with adhesion. The frame is made of high-strength steel beams, and the body is fixed on the beams through rubber pads. Bumps and off-road impacts are absorbed by the beams, and it has strong resistance to distortion and deformation;
Strong passing ability: four wheels output power synchronously, making it difficult to slip and trap on muddy, sandy, steep slopes and gravel roads. The ground clearance, approach angle/departure angle is larger, and it is suitable for complex non-paved road conditions. High driving stability: The grip on paved roads, rain, snow and icy roads is better than that of two-wheel drive, and the probability of starting, accelerating and cornering is lower. Loading and towing: The beam-type 4×4 chassis has sufficient rigidity, and its heavy-load and towing and trailering capabilities far exceed those of two-wheel drive models of the same level.
